A-League (Division 2) |
Substantial changes took place between 1996 and 1997. The A-League was absorbed by the USISL Select League, which now operates as the USA's FIFA-Sanctioned Division 2 league. The new league retains the name "A-League", but maintains separate governance within the USISL. The USISL Pro League was renamed the D-3 Pro League, and the Premier League is now the Premier Development Soccer League (PDSL). Some franchises shifted between leagues as teams attempted to meet new Division 2 and Division 3 qualification requirements.
The USISL Select League changed its name to the A-League. It then absorbed Montreal, Rochester, Toronto, Hershey, Atlanta, Colorado, Seattle and Vancouver from the old A-League which then folded. Orlando and Orange County were added. |
